The Featured Game today is Kingdom Rush from Uruguay based Ironhide Games. Kingdom Rush is a pretty straightforward Tower Defense game. They've not broken any new ground with this game, but it scratches that itch that keeps you playing.
You can choose your mission from an overhead map, with the ability to select from difficulty (Easy or Normal) and two different challenge modes which offer a more difficult experience, with fewer, harder waves and usually several gimmicks, eg. no archer towers, or barracks only.
Once in a mission, you are limited in where you may place a tower by the marked spots. The game makes the slightly strange decision of introducing towers and upgrades slowly, with you being unable to use " unlocked " towers/upgrades from later missions whilst playing earlier missions. As a result you can only use the truly powerful towers in the last 2 or 3 missions. This does add to the difficulty of the game however, making it more of a challenge. If playing on normal/challenge modes expect to lose repeatedly. They are very unforgiving, but quite satisfying to beat.
Upgrade points are earned for completing a mission. The better you do, the more you get. Upgrade points can only be earned once, so replaying a mission that you have already gotten 3 stars on without doing a challenge mode will not provide you with more upgrade points. The ability to reset your points at any time and place them again opens up the ability to customise your upgrades to a specific mission.
To sum it up, I like the graphic style and it is clear that the team at Ironhide has spent a lot of effort and time making this game. It's one of the more enjoyable Tower Defense games I have seen in the past few months. I highly recommend giving it a play.
